Filling your pool

We provide three universal tap connectors with your hire - these are designed to fit taps up to 3cm in width.

One of these three connectors should fit most standard tap fittings, however, if you have non-standard tap connectors that are extra wide, flat/waterfall style or have a non-removable shower head connector you may need to consider using a different tap or sourcing an alternative connector for filling your pool.

These are the options that are available if you have non-standard tap connectors.

1. Explore available connectors on Amazon/Plumbing websites
2. Request a longer hose is sent out to use an alternative tap
3. Create a siphon to fill your pool using your hose
4. Purchase a Retail-only Submersible water pump to be dispatched with your pool hire.

1.  Explore the available extra wide connectors on Amazon and plumbing websites as you may be able to purchase a connector suitable for use with your tap.
The page on the Amazon website is https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=extra+wide+hoselock+connector&ref=nb_sb_noss  and there are options available for shower-head taps that can be directly screwed onto your tap if the shower head is unscrewed. Many online plumbing stores have these available for online purchase. It may also be possible for a plumber to temporarily fit an alternative end fitting to your tap until after your hire has ended.

2. Request a longer hose is sent out - this can be used to run from an alternative tap in the house e.g. cloakroom, upstairs bathroom.
We can send 10m, 15m and even 20m hoses with your pool hire, these can be selected in the booking your pool page. Alternatively, if your pool has already arrived it can be ordered via our wholesalers website http://birthpoolinabox.refr.cc/personalpool to be dispatched directly. They offer our families a 10% discount which is deducted from the basket at checkout.

3. Creating a siphon to fill/empty a pool simply using the hose, a jug and a bucket
This is a simple and safe solution to the problem as connectors are not needed to fill the pool. There is a short description in the troubleshooting page of your handbook but the best way of learning how to do this is to watch a youtube video! If you were to look up on YouTube creating a water siphon (if you look up with dirty water then you won't need to use the sucking it with your mouth or anything that some videos will show!) then the water will go just as quickly from a bucket under the tap to the pool just using the hose. This video here isn't amazing but does show how easy it is – so if you imagine that the fish tank in the video is the bucket under the tap and the bucket in the video (that the water from the tank is being emptied into) is your pool! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9cUaAKA_Ms I'd use a jug to pour water into the hose though rather than just trying to aim a tap at the hose!!

4. Purchase a new Retail-only Submersible Water Pump to fill the pool via the hose.
THIS METHOD CAN ONLY BE USED WITH A BRAND NEW PUMP FOR HYGIENE REASONS - You must not use the submersible pump provided with your hire due to the risk of cross-contamination – we cannot be held responsible for any outcomes if the submersible pump we have supplied for emptying the pool is used for filling the pool.
These are available to purchase via our wholesalers website http://birthpoolinabox.refr.cc/personalpool to be dispatched directly. They offer our families a 10% discount which is deducted from the basket at checkout.

The method for filling a pool with a purchased new Retail Only Submersible Water Pump is as follows:
• position the hose in the hose opening on the liner
• place a clean bucket under the tap using to fill the pool and fill the bucket with the chosen temperature of water. It is better to use a bucket though rather than pumping the water straight out from a bath or sink as not only can access the sink or bath still if needed but also if you did need to make any changes if perhaps the water had run cold and you hadn't noticed or something had fallen into the water etc. you don't have to empty a whole bath or sink to start again!
• connect the hose to the submersible pump valve
• submerge the pump (and connected hose) into the bucket at an angle to allow the bubbles of air to escape the pump.
• plug pump in using the RCD power breaker plug, this is in your box with your tap connectors and inflation pump.
• continue to leave tap running to fill bucket until pool is at desired depth. PLEASE ENSURE THE PUMP IS ALWAYS SUBMERGED - IT MUST NEVER BE USED WITHOUT FIRST BEING SUBMERGED IN WATER.
• as this pump is one-use you can use it to empty the pool if you wish. Please do not return the Retail-only submersible pump with your hire equipment once used.

Please note: We are obliged to point out that should you purchase a Single use retail water pump to fill your pool this is your own choice and our recommended method to fill a pool, should one of our three universal tap connectors not fit, is to either use an alternative tap with a longer hose length, ordering specialist connectors for your tap yourself online or filling your pool using a siphon method.

If you already have your pool and need to use the pool before your longer hose, new connector or New Submersible Water-Pump arrives you can fill the pool simply using the hose, a jug and a bucket with the siphon method detailed above.
